Bob Irwin President of Sterling CommerceBob Irwin is President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sterling Commerce, responsible for driving company vision, growth, and profitability. In this role, Irwin is focused on reshaping Sterling Commerce to lead the company’s evolution to a major player in the enterprise software market. He is providing strategic leadership in articulating the company vision; transforming the company’s software delivery efforts; building strategic partnerships; and leveraging the company’s parent company, AT&T, and key customer constituencies.

Prior to taking the post as CEO, Irwin served as the company’s top sales executive and a key member of its executive team since joining the company in 2002. In this role as senior vice president, Americas’ Sales, Irwin was responsible for strategic leadership of the Sterling Commerce Americas’ sales team, where he helped transform the company’s sales organization.

Michael Leiblien HeadshotMichael Leiblein is an Associate Professor in the Strategic Management group of the Fisher College of Business. Professor Leiblein's research examines the relationship between firm organization and performance in technology-intensive industries. His recent work examines relationships between aspects of technical problems (e.g., problem complexity and structure, exchange specificity and uncertainty), organization (e.g., outsourcing and various alliance structures) and performance (e.g., technical and financial performance as well as technological adoption and diffusion). His research has received a number of academic awards and been disseminated into practice through outlets such as the Financial Times of London.  Professor Leiblein has led courses and seminars on business, corporate, and technology strategy in a variety of undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and executive programs and has consulted on issues relating to business, corporate, and technology strategy in the U.S. and Europe for a wide range of firms and industry groups. In his free time, he enjoys hiking and sightseeing through the American Southwest.

With two decades experience in consulting, integrated multi –channel experience creation and top-line value creation and innovation, Michael is an internationally recognized authority on consumer- centricity, its role in positioning and new concept development. As an Executive in Residence and faculty member of The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, Michael teaches graduate level courses on innovation and brand marketing and directs research on the role of innovation process and methodology in the corporate environment. Leveraging his experience directing major innovation initiatives with global brands Procter & Gamble, Humana Insurance, Nestle and Johnson & Johnson, Michael consults with a diverse mix of companies in the creation and commercialization of internal innovation practices and teams.  In his private practice, Michael also consults with leading retailers, Consumer Product Goods and service brands in the development of market entry strategies, brand positioning, consumer segmentation, and product launches and the facilitation of executive team workshops and strategic planning sessions.

Morning Welcome: E. Gordon Gee

E. Gordon GeeE Gordon Gee, among the most highly experienced and respected university presidents in the nation, returned to The Ohio State University after having served as Chancellor of Vanderbilt University for seven years. Prior to his tenure at Vanderbilt, he was president of Brown University (1998-2000), The Ohio State University (1990-97), the University of Colorado (1985-90), and West Virginia University (1981-85).

Born in Vernal, Utah, Gee graduated from the University of Utah with an honors degree in history and earned his J.D. and Ed.D degrees from Columbia University. He clerked under Chief Justice David T. Lewis of the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals before being named a judicial fellow and staff assistant to the U.S. Supreme Court, where he worked for Chief Justice Warren Burger on administrative and legal problems of the Court and federal judiciary. Gee returned to Utah as an associate professor and associate dean in the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, eventually achieving the rank of full professor. In 1979 he was named dean of the West Virginia University Law School, and in 1981 was appointed to that university's presidency.
